Bloodborne diseases are a serious concern in the U.S.  Hepatitis B inflects over 60,000 people annually and has over 1,000,000 "carriers" in the U.S.  The HIV virus, which usually leads to AIDS, currently infects over 1,000,000 people. Because of the increasing problems with these diseases, in 1991 OSHA passed a "Bloodborne Pathogens" regulation, 29 CFR 1910.1030,  addressing these issues.
