    Description

I'm offering for purchase this vintage Three (3) Star Triangle Logo 27" Long Red Boy Scout Converting Shovel. This one came from a family member that passed away, so I can't tell you its story. After doing a good amount of research though, it appears this might be an older WFS branded shovel. Based on the inscriptions on the steel of the shovel head, I haven't seen this version show up online before, but maybe you have.
The shovel head is inscribed with the three star triangle maker's mark on the left side, and 'MADE IN JAPAN' on the other. This wooden handle is worn, and there's no writing or presence of a sticker, for example. Other versions that I have seen of this shovel have more information, like a patent underneath the triangle. Not so here, and that's why I made the presumption that this is an old version of a shovel that you can read about at 'Four Bees,' and here's a pertinent quote:
    "
World Famous Sports was known for producing a complete line of Boy Scout "knock-offs", that were sold in hardware and sporting goods stores to Boy Scouts and campers.  They made everything from mess kits, to packs, axes, compasses, and shovels.  All were copies of the Official Boy Scout items, but substituted the WFS logo and name where the Boy Scouts logo often appeared.  On the rucksack copies they made, the WFS logo was designed to look like the Boy Scout logo at first glance!  All of these items were made and marketed from the late 1950's to 1970's"
But I haven't been able to verify this quote, and can't say for certain just how old WFS products go back. I also haven't been able to figure out the company behind the three-star triangle logo, and I'm not the only one!
With all of that said, the shovel I'm offering is supposed to tilt 90 degrees with the push button operation to give you that pick axe option, but I can't get it to work. Maybe you can, but I'm not very handy in that department.
Here are the approximate dimensions of this unit:
    27" long
    1-1/8" diameter handle
    6" wide shovel head
    8" long shovel head
    4-1/2" long pick
And I think that's everything. If you have additional questions, just ask! Thanks for looking!
