    Description

Proudly Presented today is this extraordinary Hopi Overlay cuff bracelet
. i believe this to be very vintage, in fact dating to the very beginning of Hopi Overlay jewelry. It is 3 inches long and 8 inches around, and weighs 5 and 2/4 ounces. Few people know just how young Hopi overlay is. It began in 1938 as a collaborative effort between Mary-Russell Colton and a dozen of the last Hopi silversmiths. The style was "invented" between them and survived by the energy of Fred Kabotie and Paul Saufkie. By 1948, Hopi WWII veterans were attending Hopi silversmith school on the GI Bill, and that is where this beautiful silver jewelry originates. Based on the formative design elements of this piece, i think it was created in the early 1950's, and thus among the first pieces produced. i base this partially on the mix of overlay and stamping on the piece, and the fact that the previous owner had this piece in her possession since the 1960's. The piece is unsigned, as was typical of the time,. i believe this is a very important piece. Its new owner will not only possess a magnificent piece of jewelry, but a part of history as well.  Buy with complete confidence, for as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price, including return postage. This is the kind of piece that has a quiet elegance that will nonetheless brighten any room (and wearer), wherever it goes. Many Thanks for your kind consideration, and Best Regards Always, Ric
