This Zuni squash blossom necklace is unsigned and old. The color of the turquoise stones are richly colored and the completely handmade sterling silver bench beads and it’s settings are smooth and beautifully executed. The necklace itself in strung on a sturdy fox tail chain. The bezel design is indicative of Dan Simplico’s bezel work that has a larger cut bezel than the common saw tooth or plain bezel. Also, the design itself is indicative of his work. There are several noticeable cracked stones on the Naja and a few on the squashes that you can plainly see in the photos, but the turquoise stones are extremely sturdy inside the bezel and not going anywhere. This is a very old piece and these cracks in the stone, are indicative of the age along the many years of use and does not take away from the value at all. Many items such as this have been sold at high end auction prices that carry with the piece many cracks in the turquoise stones and that never effects the price of it’s worth. The squash blossom weighs: “199 grams.” The length is: 27 3/4” long and the Naja is: 3 2/8” long x 3 2/8” across. Each separate squash is 1 11/16” long x 1 2/8” wide at their longest point. As you can see, this is an extremely well made and unusual squash blossom that is of museum quality stature.
