Unused Vintage Zuni Fetish - Pink-hued Dolomite Mountain Lion Fabian Tsethlakai

Pink-hued dolomite mountain lion fetish by Zuni carver, Fabian Tsethlikai. The initials "FT" are etched in the paw of the mountain lion. This carving is approximately 1 7/8" x  1/2". The mountain lion is the older brother of the bobcat and is the prey god of the north and is often carried by travelers for protection during their travels. The mountain lion spirit is associated with "personal power and resourcefulness, independence, leadership, spiritual intensity, intuition, fierce protectiveness and loyalty". The mountain lion is the older brother of the bobcat.
Fabian Tsethlikai is a respected Zuni carver who began carving in the 1980's. He is inspired by the material, shape and color of the stone and is known for his precise and unique style. He is very respectful of the elder Zuni carvers and feels they inspire his creativity and instill integrity in the art of fetish carving.
Fetishes are highly respected and are mystical, powerful talismans valued by Native American and other cultures throughout the world. The animal spirit is believed to reside within the stone. The Zuni carvers are perhaps the best known.  We purchased this fetish new for gallery inventory in 1993 and it has been in our safe since that time.
