Up for your perusal is this fabulous find. This is a pair of rare and highly sought after Richard Chavez post earrings. Earrings are 14K yellow gold (matte finish) and inlaid stone. Inlay appears to be his signature combination of black jade, turquoise and coral. Richard I. Chavez / Richard Chavez is known for his eye catching and modern design technique using irregular stone cuts. Born in 1949 in San Felipe Pueblo. After studying architecture, he taught himself jewelry making and won the grand prize at a competition in 1976. He is known for his high-style and striking contemporary designs as well  as use of uncommon metals. Yellow gold is seldom used in Native American jewelry and is considered rare. Richard Chavez designs are contemporary, chic, and sophisticated. They are a work of modern art and will surely increase in value over the years. He is highly respected and therefore his designs are sought after. These earrings are post back for pierced ears. Signed on the back: "RC". Post back and earring backs are marked 14K. Exact age is unknown, but prior owner purchased these roughly 10-15 years ago. Purchased from a high end gallery. From a serious collector who purchased high end Native American and artisan jewelry. Earrings measure about 2" in height. Sophisticated, contemporary almost Art Deco. Extremely unusual.
