Description

These symbolic, elegant earrings were made by renowned Zuni artist, Carlton Jamon circa early 1990's. They are a reticulated/pebbled sterling silver framing a striking turquoise Corn Maiden and Sun Face. This is a unique combination with the Corn Maiden symbolizing sun and light and the Sun Face representing the vital role of the seasons and success of crops and enabling growth, warmth, sustenance of life, joy and prosperity. The divided forehead on the Sun Face represents self/family and sunrise/sunset. They are approximately 1.75" x /75" and weigh approximately 10.5 grams. They are pierced with a French wire. Carlton made these earrings for the American West Boutique in the early 1990's. Since then, they have resided in our vault and have never been worn. Carlton was born in 1965 on the Zuni reservation where he has resided his entire life. He is a leader and promotor of Zuni arts and crafts. He began making jewelry in 1984 with the objective of transforming traditional Zuni designs into his vision of contemporary jewelry as art.
