    Description

From an old collection, here is a truly amazing bit of Scouting history...A wonderful, crystal clear, studio portrait of a proud Eagle Scout, along with his Eagle Scout certification card, signed by Chief Scout Executive, James E. West. These two beautiful period pieces were period framed...maybe by the proud mother after the award ceremony, or maybe as a gift from the troop. Who knows for sure; but either way, this framed ensemble is exceptional.
The studio portrait is just wonderful, and shows the youngish Eagle in his well-cared-for and nicely fitting Scout uniform, complete with early, square-style merit badges, properly sewn and positioned. Notice the great looking cap badge. There appears to be a Star rank insignia, so I suspect that this portrait in uniform may have been what the family had on hand at the time of the framing.
The corresponding Eagle Scout award card is dated December 26, 1921, and signifies that Murdock Newman of Worchester, Mass., has met the many requirements to be recognized as an Eagle Scout. Best of all is the gorgeous, live, signature, in bold, iron-brown ink, of James E. West, Chief Scout Executive.
Together, these two pieces were period framed, in a beautiful frame, with a very nice textured mounting board. What an awesome piece of early BSA history for the Scout collector! This would be the highlight of any BSA collection.
Condition is overall near perfect. The frame is in great shape, as is the glass. The mat board is perfect, as are the portrait and certificate. The brown kraft dust-cover paper on the back of the frame is entirely loose, as can be seen in the photos. This does not detract, or prevent this beautiful piece from being displayed. Measures about 12" x 8", so a very nice, displayable size. And glare seen in the photos, is just that -- glare. Would look great in your curio cabinet of early Scouting memorabilia, or hanging on a wall in your collection room. This is a unique and top-shelf piece; I've never seen another piece like it. And being from 1921, if a relatively early Eagle Scout piece.
